Solo Exhibition at Second Street Gallery
Passenger brings together an expansive collection of photographs taken along Amtrak’s Northeast Regional line between Charlottesville and New York City. Using the train window as both barrier and lens, Stacey Evans transforms the act of travel into an exploration of rhythm, pattern, and perspective. Each image is a fragment of movement; a record of what’s fleeting, shifting, and seen only in passing.
First Friday Opening Reception
Hop on board for the opening of Passenger! This First Friday will be a lively one with downtown Charlottesville’s Grand Illumination at the Ting Pavilion.
This event is free and open to the public.
Artist in Conversation Gallery Talk: Stacey Evans and John Edwin Mason
A conversation on Passenger, photography, and the art of seeing in motion, with Stacey Evans and John Edwin Mason.
This talk is FREE to attend. Space is limited so please register here to save a spot. Or visit Second Street Galleries Instagram for a live feed.
Family Studio Day
SSG’s Family Studio Day is a free event where families with kids of all ages are invited to spend time creating art together in the gallery.
We encourage you to create your own train-inspired collage based on Evans' photos and ongoing collage practice. Choose your own track to make art about the train itself or the views you might see as you go on a creative journey. The Stacey will be in the gallery to offer an extra boost of inspiration.
All supplies for this project will be provided. We hope you'll bring your fellow travel companions and future adventurers to join in on the fun! These activities get families engaged in not only the act of creation, but also in having thoughtful conversations about the artworks in the current exhibition.
Thank you to CEP Solar (Commonwealth Energy Partners) for sponsoring this event!
Through their eyes…
-
I encountered Stacey’s train series photos while visiting a friend in the ICU at UVa hospital. They immediately captured my attention and drew me into the role of passenger. Raw, real and compelling, I felt comforted by her images; they carried me away from the reality of the situation.
